Resumo: W. H. Auden once said that “the primary function of poetry, as of all the arts, is to make us more aware of ourselves and the world around us”. If we take seriously the aim of poetry of enabling the subject to apprehend the world differently, we might advance that putting words in a certain rhythm allows us to feel differently – which makes us think. With that, this piece wants to explore how methodology relates to exploring alternative ways to apprehend the world in live in common. To do so, it aims to rely on curatorial practices of narrating works of art in a certain display to explore ways of narrative violence in International Relations differently. This short piece explores how art can be considered further than a representation of violence, but an epistemological endeavour. It argues that materiality, through artistic expressions, might disrupt a conventional set of meanings. More importantly, how writing as a curatorial practice could offer an urge to think together – writer and reader – when dealing with daily issues of international politics. To pursue this argument, this work will dialogue with works from Rio de Janeiro’s Museu da Maré that discuss contemporary violence in the city to highlight how art could function as a mechanism of reflection of the very conditions of thinking and appearing. More specifically, it regards the way of writing about the site that relates to curatorial practice to discuss violence, politics, and subjects in a certain rhythm.
